Welcome to Wild Atlantic Way Mullaghmore, County Sligo, Ireland

Billed as “the longest defined coastal touring route in the world”, Ireland’s Wild Atlantic Way has just been officially launched. The Wild Atlantic Way is set to be Ireland’s first long-distance touring route, stretching along the Atlantic coast from Donegal to West Cork. Mullaghmore Head has been named a discovery point on the second section of the route which runs from Mullaghmore Head to Keem Strand.

About Mullaghmore

Mullaghmore, Ireland’s premier big wave surfing spot is a small fishing village and popular tourist destination located between Cliffoney and Grange in County Sligo. Lying close to the borders of Counties Leitrim and Donegal, Mullaghmore has stunning views of Benbulben Mountain and Donegal and Sligo Bay.

With a 3km green flag family beach and rugged coastline with clear waters, rocky outcrops and coves Mullaghmore is the perfect spot for water sports like scuba diving under the instruction of Offshore Watersports’ experienced PADI Divemaster Michal Czubala. Mullaghmore Pier is also a renowned base for inshore and deep sea fishing and in 2013 the Skipper of Offshore Watersports’ M.V. Kiwi Girl Declan Kilgannon landed 2 Giant Blue Fin Tuna.

Big Wave Surfing Mullaghmore

Huge Atlantic rollers crash onto surfing strands all the way up Ireland’s wild western seaboard. But it’s off the coast of Sligo that they’ve discovered ‘Prowlers’ – a wave like no other with swells said to be up to 100ft. That’s why Sligo’s Mullaghmore Head hosted Ireland’s first Big Wave contest in 2011, drawing surfers from across the globe. Tow-in surfing – involving jetskis as well as surfers – is a highly skilled sport and exciting to watch from the headland.
