It’s easy to see why as this uninhabited island is one of the best-preserved early medieval church sites of northern Europe. 5. Big Wave Surfing

Mullaghmore is now recognised as one of the top big wave surfing spots in Europe, and rightly so with giant waves of up to 50ft being surfed in winter swells. While only a few brave souls take on these monsters it makes a great spectator sport and you can watch the professionals take on these waves from the safety of Mullaghmore Head or if you’re a Photographer or Journalist you can get closer to the action by booking a place the M.V. 6.Walking & Exploring

There are many great walks with fantastic views in Mullaghmore. If you would like a leisurely stroll, the village has a lovely green area in front of the harbour, and you can walk along Mullaghmore Pier to view all the water sport and fishing activities on show. For a medium level walk you can go to the end of Mullaghmore’s Green Flag Beach and back which is 6 km. For a longer walk you can park your car at Bunduff Strand and walk the whole way across and Beach and around Mullaghmore Head and back which is 8km.

7.Photography

Mullaghmore is a Photographer’s paradise with so many unique and interesting shots you can take. The Iconic classiebawn Castle is the most notable landmark on Mullaghmore Head and makes a great photograph from different angles and in different lights. A photograph of the castle was even featured on the cover of The Lonely Planet’s Guide to Ireland. Of course Mullaghmore’s Big Wave Surfing also attracts top local and international photographers and Offshore Watersports provides hire of the M.V. Kiwi Girl for getting close up to the action.

Eithna’s By the Sea is an award-winning Seafood Restaurant overlooks the harbour in Mullaghmore, County Sligo. Established for over 16 years, Eithna’s By The Sea Restaurant won the Georgina Campbell and BIM 2014 award for its seafood, shellfish and lobster dishes as well as Eithna’s use of seaweed in both savoury and sweet dishes. Mullaghmore is perfectly situated to enjoy superb views of Donegal and Sligo Bay as well as the Dartry Mountain range including Ireland’s famous Benbulben Mountain. Mullaghmore Head Loop Drive/Walk provides great vantage points for Big Wave and Sea Bird Watching as well as a great view of Classiebawn Castle. Or simply relax by the pier and enjoy the views of watersports and local fishermen unloading the day’s catch.
